  The HP Smart Storage Administrator (HPSSA) is the storage configuration,
  diagnostics, and management utility for ProLiant servers.

Installing & Running the HP Smart Storage Administrator
--------------------------------------------------------------

  Installation:
    HPSSA is distributed using Red Hat Package Manager (RPM) packages. 
    If there is an older version of HPSSA installed on the system, 
      please use "rpm -e hpssa" to remove it first. Use "rpm -i <file name>" 
      to install the service.
    Please type "man rpm" for other details regarding RPM.
    The software resides in /opt/hp/hpssa and the executable 
      name is hpssa which is located in /usr/sbin.
    HPSSA can be accessed through the HP System Management Homepage.  If you
      have not installed "HP's System Management Homepage", please download and
      install it from hp.com.

  Run the HPSSA client on the local server as an application:
    Requirements:
       . You must run hpssa as root
       . You must be running on a 
       . The background process will create a port on the loopback interface
         which is not visible to external network connections.
    1. Run the hpssa command (/usr/sbin/hpssa) with the "-local" parameter. The
       background program will start and launch the firefox browser.
    2. To change the default browser that is started, or to specify the command
       to use to launch the browser, modify the browserstart.sh script
       (under /opt/hp/hpssa/bin) with the correct path.
    3. To exit the application, close the main application window.

  Run the HPSSA remotely through the HP System Management Homepage:
    Requirements:
       . Only run HPSSA on servers that are on a local intranet
         or a secure network.
       . Secure the management port (port 2301) on your network, or run
         using the secure port (port 2381).
       . Run hpssa as root.
    To start the server daemon:
    1. Run the hpssa command with the "-start" parameter
       /usr/sbin/hpssa -start
    2. If this is the first time that HPSSA is started in this mode, you must
       restart the SMH server for HPSSA to appear in the SMH page. To restart
       SMH type (as root):
       /etc/init.d/hpsmhd restart
    3. Access the System Management Homepage from the client browser. 
       URL:        http://<server name>:2301/
       Secure URL: https://<server name>:2381/
    4. HPSSA can be launched from the Storage section by clicking on the
       HP Smart Storage Administrator link.

    To stop the server daemon:
    1. Run the hpssa command with the "-stop" parameter
       /usr/sbin/hpssa -stop    
    
Additional Notes
----------------

    1. When running under the System Management Homepage, users will
       automatically be logged out after a predetermined period of inactivity
       when using HPSSA and will have to re-login.  
    2. System Management Homepage login timeouts will not work properly while 
       running HPSSA unless the "Anonymous Access" option is checked on the 
       System Management Homepage under "Settings->Options". 
       If you decide not to check "Anonymous Access" and a login timeout
       occurs, the System Management Homepage login screen will appear in an
       HPSSA frame and will not work correctly. If this happens, close the
       HPSSA browser and go back to the System Management Homepage and re-login
       as administrator.
       Click on the Smart Storage Administrator link to restart the HPSSA
       session.
    3. To properly exit out of the HPSSA session, click on the Exit (X) link in
       the HPSSA window.
    4. Please stop the HP Storage Agents when deleting logical drives
       since HP Storage Agents keeps all logical drives open.
    5. If all physical drives on a controller fail or are removed, software
       keys will not be saved to the controller.
    6. HPSSA may appear unresponsive during heavy array controller I/O
       conditions, such as during a partition format or a logical drive
       rebuild.
    7. Some browsers allow pop-ups to be turned off or blocked.  For HPSSA to
       run, pop-ups must be enabled in the browser.
    8. When using Linux as the host operating system, if a Smart Array
       controller has 16 or more volumes configured, deleting any volume in the
       HPSSA will not update the /proc/partitions to reflect the deletion of
       the device node associated with that volume. Rebooting the server will
       cause the update to happen. Note that there is also a limitation that
       only the first 16 volumes configured will be available to the operating
       system.
    9. When using Internet Explorer 9.0 to run HPSSA from a server using HPSMH
       it may not be possible to save the diagnostic report. To allow the
       report to be dowloaded do the following: Under Internet Options, go to
       the Advanced tab and clear the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk"
       checkbox.
   10. When using Internet Explorer 8.0 to run HPSSA remotely, choosing the
       "Save Report" link to download a copy of the diagnostic report may cause
       the information bar to appear with the following message: 

         "To help protect your security, Windows Internet Explorer blocked this
          site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for more
          options..."

       Even if the "download file" action is clicked in the information bar, 
       the file download is blocked and the report is not downloaded.
       In order to successfully download the file: 
       * Choose to view the report first and then save the file, or
       * Disable automatic download blocking by enabling automatic prompting
         for file downloads. To access the setting that controls automatic
         download blocking:
       a) Click Tools, and then click Internet Options. The Internet Options
          dialog box appears.
       b) Click the Security tab. The Internet Options dialog box shows the
          security levels and zones. Select the current security zone for the
          server that is running HPSSA.
       c) Click Custom Level. The Security Settings dialog box appears.
       d) Scroll down to Downloads, and then select the Enable option for
          Automatic prompting for file downloads.
