Installing & Running the Array Configuration Utility
--------------------------------------------------------------

  Installation:
ACU requires "HP's System Management Homepage" installed. If you have not
installed "HP's System Management Homepage", please download and install
    it from hp.com first.
ACU is distributed using Red Hat Package Manager (RPM) packages.
If there is an older version of ACU (or ACU-XE) installed on the system,
please use "rpm -e cpqacuxe" to remove it first. Use "rpm -i <file name>"
	to install the service.
Please type "man rpm" for other details regarding RPM.
The software resides in /opt/compaq/cpqacuxe and the executable
name is cpqacuxe which is located in /usr/sbin.

  Run the ACU server:

Make sure that you have gone through the following checklist:
. Only run ACU on servers that are on a local intranet
      or a secure network.
. Secure the management port (port 2301) on your network.
. You run cpqacuxe as root.

    To start the server:
If /usr/sbin is already added in your path, just type:
"cpqacuxe" for local access only or
    "cpqacuxe -R" for remote access.
More options can be found by "cpqacuxe --help".

  Run the ACU client:
    1. Open your browser (Netscape Navigator 6.2 or Mozilla 1.5 on Linux or
Internet Explorer 5.5 or above on Microsoft Windows 2000).

    If remote access is enabled:
2a. Type "http://SERVERNAME:2301" into the url field. The servername should
be the IP address or server name of the host on which the ACU server
       is running.

    If remote access is disabled:
2b. Type "http://127.0.0.1:2301" into the url field on the machine on which
       the ACU server is running.

    3. You are required to log in as an Administrator in "HP's System Management
Homepage". Please refer to the online help of the System Management Homepage
       for the account management details.

    4. Click the ACU button near the bottom of the screen.

  Exiting ACU:
    1. To exit the ACU client, close the browser by clicking on the Exit link.
    2. To exit the ACU server, type "cpqacuxe -stop".

 LocalApp Mode:
Starting with the 8.35.x.x releases, cpqacuxe can be run in local application mode
under Linux. In this scenario, the Systems Management Homepage is not required to
be installed. To invoke, enter the following at the command prompt:

		cpqacuxe -nosmh

The command will start ACU in a new Firefox browser window. When the
browser window is closed, ACU will automatically stop. This is only valid
for the loopback interface, and not visible to external network connections.

Additional Notes
----------------

  1. Users will automatically be logged out after a predetermined period of
inactivity when using ACU and will have to re-login.
  2. System Management Homepage login timeouts will not work properly while
running ACU unless the "Anonymous Access" option is checked on the
      System Management Homepage under "Settings->Options".
If you decide not to check "Anonymous Access" and a login timeout occurs,
the System Management Homepage login screen will appear in an ACU frame
and will not work correctly. If this happens, close the ACU browser
and go back to the System Management Homepage and re-login as administrator.
Click on the Array Configuration Utility link to restart the ACU session.
  3. When clicking on a controller that is currently being configured in a different
ACU session, a message will appear which allows you to override the other
ACU session or cancel. If you choose to override the other ACU session,
any unsaved changes in the other session will be discarded.
  4. To properly exit out of ACU session, click on the Exit link in the
      ACU window.
  5. ACU is best viewed in Netscape with Verdana and Arial fonts. It is
recommended that you install these fonts.
  6. After creating or deleting logical drives with ACU, under some special
circumstances, the device name mapping might change after you first reboot
the system. Also, Linux might see previously not visible logical drives after
rebooting. This name mapping problem is common to all SCSI devices on
linux. Please refer to drive_reordering.htm in the installation directory
      for detailed explanation.
  7. Do not insert or remove a controller driver module when cpqacuxe is running.
  8. Please stop the HP Storage Agents when deleting logical drives
since HP Storage Agents keeps all logical drives open.
  9. If all physical drives on a controller fail or are removed, software keys will
not be saved to the controller.
  10. When using Mozilla or Netscape, dragging and dropping pages in ACU
      frames is not supported.
  11. If you have logged into the Device Homepage through http://localhost:2301,
on Netscape 6.2, attempts to access the ACU will fail. You must first log out,
then access the device homepage using http://127.0.0.1:2301, log in, and then
		access the ACU.
  12. ACU may appear unresponsive during heavy array controller I/O conditions, such as
during a partition format or a logical drive rebuild.
  13. Some browsers allow pop-ups to be turned off or blocked. For ACU to run, pop-ups
must be enabled in the browser.
  14. When running ACU with Mozilla, drop-down list controls may not appear until
the field has been clicked multiple times. For example, the drop-down list of
stripe sizes will not appear until the Stripe Size selection field has been
clicked multiple times. The input fields normally turn yellow when clicked under
Mozilla, but instead of turning yellow on the first click, the first click gives
the field focus, the second click turns the field yellow, and the third click
displays the drop-down list of stripe sizes.
  15. Clicking on "Rescan Controllers" rapidly several times in a row may cause ACU to
show no controllers detected. If this occurs, wait for the outstanding rescans
to complete. Click on "Rescan Controllers" only once and wait until it is
      complete.
  16. On SLES9 systems, after deleting logical drives, please reboot the system or reload
the driver to sync up the OS's volume devices with the controller.
  17. When using Linux as the host operating system, if a Smart Array controller has 16
or more volumes configured, deleting any volume in the ACU will not update the
/proc/partitions to reflect the deletion of the device node associated with that
volume. Rebooting the server will cause the update to happen. Note that there is
also a limitation that only the first 16 volumes configured will be available to
      the operating system.
