Deployment scenarios

HP SUM deploys updates from a local host to one or more remote hosts. If the host running HP SUM uses Windows, you can update Windows, Linux, VMware, or HP-UX targets. If the host running HP SUM uses Linux, you can update Linux, VMware, or HP-UX nodes. You can also update remote ProLiant, Integrity nodes, and Moonshot systems from Windows or Linux systems.

The following table describes when typical HP SUM deployment scenarios are used.

Scripted deployment on a local host

  • You are familiar with command line tools.

  • You are deploying components on a local, single host.

  • Updates require a customized, scripted deployment.

  • You are not familiar with command line tools.

  • You are deploying components on one or more remote hosts.

  • Updates do not require scripting.

Scripted deployment to a remote host

  • You are familiar with command line tools.

  • You are deploying components on one or more hosts.

  • Updates require a customized, scripted deployment to one or more host systems.
